Wow! What a great summer... It's flown by...

I have been so lucky to be able to get away for two short breaks... The first trip was to Spain. It was a very last minute booking - just one day before - within hours we were flying off to somewhere completely new and exciting.  What a revelation we loved it. It was our very first holiday with just Ben and was really fantastic. So many great things for him to do and lots of great food for me and Mark to both enjoy.

 

 

After that sunny break we went down to Dorset and Somerset. My Aunty and Uncle used to run The George Hotel in West Bay and I spent most of my summers there as a child.  I love to go back and this time I was very spoiled. Friends booked an evening at River Cottage for our 50th and it was a really great night; such a lovely atmosphere and the staff were amazing. Then on to Hive Beach; Burton Bradstock is one my favourite places and lucky us... The café on the beach serves amazing fish. You have to queue but it's worth it! When the sun is shining there are not many places I would rather be.

 

Finally, taking the chance that we could get in, we went to Lyme Regis and wandered into Hix restaurant. Stiunning view! Amazing food! And another fabulous lunch. In between all of the eating we enjoyed lots of cooking, walking and visiting wonderful places on the beautiful coast. Oh, and I did get to go the Melplash show for the first time in years. So many lovely animals... And food was just great! Hope to get back again next year.

 

I have also been doing loads and loads of Foodie Festivals. I simply love them and relish meeting everyone else who is completely obsessed with food. And I adore seeing all the fabulous produce and of course... Sampling and tasting as much as possible.

 

 

So, now think a serious detox is in order and I need to get my head down to write lots of recipes and get on with other work. I am so very excited to be spending a week with Jason Atherton and his team at Pollen Street Social this month. I will be learning about the restaurant and how a professional kitchen runs.
